| Tancredo is reelected, but predicts hard times for those favoring immigration enforcement November 8, 2006 Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo was reelected for a fifth term in the U.S. Congress. Tancredo was elated with his victory, but he said he found the outcome ‘bittersweet’ because Republicans lost control of the House of Representatives. "Although it is great to win re-election, when you go back and you're in the minority party, the options you have, especially on immigration reform and taxation, the issues about which I am most concerned - - I am afraid there are hard times ahead of us," Tancredo said. The Chairman of the House Immigration Caucus, Tancredo supports increased border security, building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and penalties for employers who hire illegal immigrants. His opponent, Democrat Bill Winter, had endorsed President Bush's guest- worker proposal. Revised November 8, 2006 Contactusatwebmaster@usbc.org |
