Woman from Salt Lake City asks "What can we do?"

...I read in our local newspaper that President Bush still is working on plans to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants from Mexico.

As I recall, it was reported in the article that President Bush was planning on meeting with the president of Mexico sometime in early September concerning this matter.

What does it take to convince him that granting amnesty to illegals in this country is something many citizens in the U.S. don't want?

Most of the homes for sale in the former, white, middle class community in the northwest corner of Salt Lake City, Ut, the community in which I live, are being bought by Mexican immigrants.

These homes are small, starter homes built around 1949 and in the early 1950's.

Many have been beautifully maintained.

Now, many of the Mexicans are not taking care of their yards, packing these little homes with three or four families, damaging the homes, and are being, rude, sometimes threatening, loud neighbors, etc.

Their large numbers of children are overcrowding and "dumbing down"our neighborhood schools.

The hospital where my husband was taken to the emergency room, the week before last, is overcrowded.

When I complained to the emergency room nurse regarding the fact that I had a hard time finding a place to park my car, even though it was only midmorning when I arrived there, she told me that the hospital patient load had been doubling or tripling each year for about the last three years.

She said many of the people using the hospital, were immigrants and many people were using the emergency room like a clinic.

This was taking place in a nice, privately owned hospital.

Many in the community in which I live are not very happy about the takeover of this area by Mexican immigrants, but no government official will do anything about the takeover of this city, state and country by illegal Mexican immigrants, in fact, they extend a welcoming hand.

They also have set up institutions which provide home loans to these immigrants, allowing them to move in and dominate our neighborhoods.

I feel so frustrated.

I feel like my race (white) and culture are being trashed.

I am no longer proud to be an American.

What can we do, legally, to get our government leaders to listen to us and save our country from these invaders?
