I have witnessed first hand what the illegal immigration problem is doing in our country. Unfortunately, I am married (and separated) from a man who is living here and working illegally. I won't bore you with all the torrid details, but let's just say that the man is ruining my life, to the extent that he has threatened to take our child out of the country and I would never see my child again, to me having to pay somewhere between 2,000 and $7,000 to take him to court to get custody and to get him to pay child support.
And that's just the tip of the iceburg. The more personal things that he has done to me would make your skin crawl. He has also been involved in illegal activity, such as helping other Mexicans come into the country and helping them buy their fake green cards and social security cards.
Anyway, his current status is that he has applied to INS for green card and is now awaiting their decision. I have written to them and told them about his illegal activities, and also that I want to withdraw my support from him. So far it seems like I am being ignored. I wrote my congressman's office too, and nothing has come of that, either.
The thing that gets me, is that a while back I went with my husband to his INS interview. Most of all this information did not come out during this interview, but it did come out that he is working with a fake green card and fake social security card. The interviewer asked him why he was doing that and he gave her some big spiel about supporting our baby (he was doing this years before I ever met even met him, much less had a baby), and then she went on with the interview as if nothing had happened. Later I asked her, what happens about this situation ? And she said, "nothing". I said, "nothing ?" She said, "nothing".
Can you believe this ? What has happened to our government ????? Why do we even make our laws if they are just going to be ignored ? I even talked to social security and told them that there is a place here in Asheville, NC, where they are making fake social security cards and fake green cards. The woman at the local office didn't even want to take down the information !!!!!!!!!!
Finally, I spoke to the US attorney's office in my state, and the attorney asked a lot of questions and finally said, "Well, that is something for immigration to handle". Does immigration handle the manufacture of fake social security cards ? I would be very surprised to learn if they do.
Do you have any ideas on who I can turn to for help in this situation ? It seems that no one cares. In reality, we should be talking about whether this man is going to prison, not whether he should be allowed to stay in our country. It is unbelievable.
