McCain is apparently deaf to public on immigration Jan. 19, 2008 An Arizona Republic's editorial took great pains to prove that John McCain is a conservative ("Criticism falls short"). However, it's irrelevant to grassroots Republicans whether McCain is labeled as a conservative or a moderate. It's his stand on the issue of immigration that has the average Republican in an uproar. The grass roots of the GOP want a secure border, enforcement of our immigration laws and illegal immigration brought under control. The Washington establishment, which McCain is a part of, want to keep the cheap labor immigrant supply secure and our immigration laws unenforced, which results in the continuation of an out-of-control illegal-immigration situation. The problem with McCain is not one of right vs. left but of the Washington establishment being deaf to the concerns of the average citizen on immigration. It's time for McCain and the rest of the Washington establishment to take the wax out of their ears and listen to the people for a change.
