U.S.BORDER CONTROL

Bush immigration stance proves unpopular among U.S. residents

December 6, 2005

A recent Gallup Poll shows that most U.S. residents are not happy with President’s Bush’s handling of the immigration issue.

A poll conducted last month showed that only 26 percent of respondents approved of the way Bush is handling immigration. Almost two-thirds, 65 percent, disapproved. The poll was taken several weeks before the President traveled to the U.S. Southwest to talk about immigration.

In an earlier poll, 46 percent said they would like to see immigration decreased; 49 percent said the presence of recent immigrants holds down wages for other U.S. workers. Nevertheless, both polls showed support for immigration, with 61 percent of respondents in the earlier poll saying it was good for the county and 34 percent saying it wasn't.

In the November poll, 1006 of those contacted responded . The earlier poll reached 2264 individuals.
